TypeCon 2026 :: The Invisible Medium Motion Poster

Assignment
The goal of this project was to create a printed poster for a typography festival that could be adapted into a digital animation. The design needed to communicate a clear theme, highlight key speakers or events, and convey excitement and innovation. Additionally, the typography within the design needed to be more than a visual element as it needed to create an engaging, interactive experience.

Approach
I started by developing a theme for TypeCon, choosing “The Invisible Medium” to explore how effective typography often goes unnoticed unless we intentionally focus on it. In my early sketches, circular motifs stood out to me the most, so I continued exploring that direction. Some of the more dynamic ideas didn’t translate as well as I expected, but through experimentation, I found that a simple centered, circular layout communicated the theme effectively while still feeling intentional and clear.

Results
The printed poster uses three slightly misaligned circular elements to highlight most of the blurred conference title. The animation builds on the concept, with moving “spotlights” revealing clear, cropped sections of the title before gradually expanding to show the entire page, ending with a call to action and looping back to the start.

This project won the GOLD AWARD in the Graphis New Talent Awards 2026.
